Yesterday was sheep shearing day on the farm / compound I regularly visit as part of my longform, yet- unpublished documentary photo series, The Promised Land. I learned that if a sheep isn’t standing on its legs it won’t move at all, making the shearing process easier than I expected. I also  got a wool-spinning tutorial and sat in on a one-room schoolhouse lesson about how Donald Trump is fulfilling Biblical prophecy.

In the continued chaos of women’s reproductive health post the Roe V Wade overturn, March was a wild flurry of IVF-related photo assignments due to the Supreme Court ruling that frozen embryos are considered children.  I worked on stories about IVF for New York Times (and this one and this one) as well as for Washington Post and Wall Street Journal.

I also contributed to an NPR story about The Science of Siblings and a Wall Street Journal story about the possibility of eliminating cervical cancer in Alabama.

I photographed a New York Times Story on my birthday this year about a new Civil Rights Exhibit at Temple Beth El, the site of an attempted bombing in 1958. The exhibit is an interactive experience, and I was impressed by its unique avoidance of portraying a typical “heroes and villains” narrative, instead focusing inbetween those binaries, challenging modern day ambivalence by looking deeper into the complex past and investigating smaller decisions that have potential to bring about profound change. You can read the full story here.
